Gustavus Adolphus College is seeking a Web Developer to work as a member of Web Services to program and provide support for the maintenance and augmentation of the College’s web presence. As a key component of this dynamic office, this individual is expected to be organized, resourceful, and able to effectively collaborate within a team environment, while providing leadership for coding standards and practices. A love of the Internet with fluency in Web-related technologies is a must.
Primary responsibilities include: assist in the design, development, and maintenance of Web-based in-house applications; provide support for third-party applications, including the College’s registration and content management systems; offer basic website support to campus departments; maintain an awareness of technological advancements within the Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP environment as well as MSSQL, (X)HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript and/or other relevant technologies; and develop a holistic perspective to better serve the technology needs of the campus community.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree with a focus in a related field and 2-3 years programming experience, including at least one year of PHP and MySQL programming is preferred. Other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but demonstrated programming ability is imperative. Experience working with educational or commercial websites and an understanding of back-end Web infrastructure and architecture are desirable. Knowledge of appropriate hardware, software, and Web coding tools including PHP, SQL, XML, (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is essential.
